Family: Edgar Is TWO!

January 18, 2012...Edgar's Birth Date

That means he's TWO today!

It's hard to believe that he was once this cute little guy!

Current stats:
 Weight: 102.3 lbs
 Loves: Tennis Balls and Playing Catch
           Terrorizing Silas
           Talking Jaunts with Sophie
           Laying on the Back Porch in the Sunshine
           Eating Apples
Taught Us:
           Always put away your shoes or they'll get eaten
           Same with remotes and eyeglasses

So big! So different! But still a big lap puppy!

Edgar Update: He's a Moose Now!

Today Edgar went to the spa.

He had an oatmeal bath...
 His hair and nails were trimmed....
 And he was blown dry.

In order to determine their fees, they weight the dog...Edgar sits williningly on the scale because he gets cookies for being good.

96.4 pounds...can you believe it?

I've officially declared him to be a moose!

Last Week In Review

Hey there!

It's been a busy week or two...

First, Edgar celebrated his first birthday!  Look at the difference between puppy Edgar and teenage Edgar...he's grown up!  He's a total redhead, weighs in at 82.5 lbs at the moment, eats four cups of dog food a day, and loves to play ball.

Next, I was lucky to take a class with Emily of Carolina Patchworks at Road to California. I learned a lot, especially the fact that I could actually handle a quilt with a lot of small pieces.

And finally, I attempted to make a Scrappy Lone Star with Janice of Better Off Thread.  Janice gave me the confidence to actually do this and not to worry if things weren't exactly perfect.

Other than that, I managed to finish my Scrappy Trip Along quilt top...or at least I thought I did.  When it came to laying out the quilt, I found myself ONE block short....so now I'm scrounging around a bit for matching fabric to finish that last block.  (p.s. If you have any old Lakehouse in your stash, would you let me know? I need a strip of the pink and orange and green...)

So what have you been up to???

Edgar: Almost Eleven Months

Edgar's almost eleven months old...an official teenager in a dog's life!

True to form, he's sleeping most days until noon and eating us out of house and home....and causing trouble.

He loves to play WWF with Silas, body-slamming him outside in the afternoons...pure entertainment.

He's gotten taller and lanky...and is officially the tallest of the pups.  He can comfortably rest his head on the dining room table when standing, an action which I don't encourage!

He's very uncoordinated and can't seem to get into the car these days without a bit of help...or either he's so smart to know I'll help him in the car with just a glance from that "poor puppy" face.

He lost a few pounds this month...down to 77.8 pounds.  I'm told this is typical for golden retrievers during their teenage years, but I'm still worried a bit.

And I'm also wondering how big he will get?  With his father weighing in at a lanky 106 lbs, I'm wondering if he'll be in the same range....lots of dog food to buy!

Edgar at Nine Months

 Nine months?

Really?

Yes, Edgar is nine months old and weights just a few ounces shy of 80 pounds.

80 pounds...I just can't believe that one.

80 pounds...four more pounds and he'll be the heaviest dog in the house, but he already wins the title for tallest and longest dog hands down.

80 pounds...he's so skinny, though...the taller he gets, the skinnier he becomes...why? He's certainly not starving...four cups of dog food, two apples and other assorted goodies daily.

His biggest accomplishment this month? Fitting two balls in his mouth at the same time...

Edgar: Eight Month Update

Eight months...can you believe it?  I can't quite grasp how we got here!

Edgar now weights 71.6 lbs and is on the fast track to becoming the biggest dog in our home.  If his track record continues, he will win this title by next month.

He is the tallest dog in the house.

He sheds the most hair in the house.

He still loves his tennis balls.

And Pheobe still hates his guts...oh well! Life will go on!

Edgar: Seven Months Update

Can you believe it?

Edgar is seven months old.

He's a big boy...yes, a big boy....weighing in at 61.3 pounds.

And he still loves his blue monkey...and digging dirt...and chewing ice cubes...and eating watermelon rinds.

What a life he has!

Edgar at Six Months

How time flies when you're having fun!

Edgar is now six months old, weighing in at a whopping 55.4 lbs and averaging ten pounds a month at this point.  He's a big boy and going to be an even bigger Golden Retriever, as my Vet is estimating 80-100lbs.

And he's a redhead...think Duke from the Bush Bean's commercial.

Looking back I'm glad I've captured it all on pictures...how he wouldn't look at the camera when I picked him out...his first car ride home...his wine crate "carseat"...and getting old enough to enjoy himself in the backyard when days are nice.

I'm glad he's part of the family.....

Edgar at Five Months

I can't believe it....can you? He's five months old!

He's 44.8 lbs, an average of 10 lbs/month...and eating like it!  He loves apples, carrots, leaves, sticks and watermelon...as well as the four cups of puppy food a day.

His favorite toy...the ball.  He will "fetch", "release", and sometimes even catch.  Unfortunately, it's only in the house...take him outside and he's too distracted to play.

As he gets bigger, he gets more freedom...we've been letting him out little-by-little, and he's been staying pretty close to home.

Hopefully next month we'll be able to teach him how to use the doggie door.....

Edgar at Four Months

Both DH and I are in agreement; Edgar has lost his puppy face and is now in the between stage.

Weight: 34.6 pounds; an increase of over TEN pounds in the past month.  Can you tell he loves food!

Favorites: Swimming Pool and Water...gets in it whenever he's in the backyard, even if it's raining.

Food:  Eating FIVE cups of Puppy Food a day, along with an apple at each meal.

Accomplishment: He can jump out of the car on his own...now if we can only get him to jump into the car as easily.

Edgar at Three Months

I can't believe it...Edgar is three months old!

He's doubled his weight...from 12 lbs to 23.4 lbs today.  Now I know why  I go through a 20 lb. bag of dog food every two weeks just for him.

He barks if you're not doing something he thinks you should be doing, such feeding him. He jumps on to furniture when he's not supposed to, although I love seeing his happy face wiggling on the sofa when I walk in the door.

And his newest habit you ask? Think Charmin toilet paper commercial...yes, he loves toilet paper and will run with it through the house if you don't keep the bathroom door closed.

Life is good!

Puppy Love...Meet Edgar

I know exactly what you're going to say...

I'm totally insane...and at this point I'd totally agree with you.

A new puppy!

And he's soooo cute!

And he's number FOUR in our house...we already have Sophie (10 yrs), Pheobe (8 yrs), and Silas (5 yrs).

Can I just explain myself?

We need to have at least two dogs at all times living out in the canyons with all the various critters about...namely rattlesnakes. Sophie and Pheobe are definitely getting older, and Pheobe has a major case of arthritis at the moment.  If anything was to happen to these dogs, Silas would be alone...definitely not a good idea...especially against those darn coyotes!
